Wrestlers’ Protest Updates: FIR will be filed on the complaint of wrestlers today itself, Anurag Thakur also said this

The Delhi Police on Friday informed the Supreme Court that it will file an FIR against wrestling association chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh amid protests by the country’s top wrestlers. This was stated by Solicitor General (SG), Tushar Mehta before a bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha. The Delhi Police informed the top court about the FIR as the top court was hearing a petition filed by top women wrestlers alleging sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan. The apex court asked the police authorities to conduct a threat assessment and provide security to the minor wrestler. The matter will be heard again on May 5.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal urged the Supreme Court to issue directions to provide security to women wrestlers under the supervision of a retired judge. The Supreme Court directed the Delhi Police to file an affidavit mentioning the steps taken to provide security to the minor girl. The Supreme Court directed the Delhi Police to adequately assess the threat perception and provide protection to the minor girl. On the other hand, the statement of Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has also come to the fore regarding the whole matter.

Anurag Thakur said that I met (the wrestlers) last time also. The committee was formed after talking to him. Everyone was given an opportunity to appear before that committee. Women were kept in large numbers in the committee because they can openly express themselves in front of women. He said that we have given the authority to the IOA for fair elections, which has formed its own committee yesterday. This committee will set up the selection process, tournament organization and internal complaints committee there. All steps are in the same direction.
