Dubai. India on Sunday consolidated their position at the second spot behind Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points table with a 2-0 series sweep against Bangladesh. With this win, India has also strengthened its chances of reaching the WTC final for the second time in a row. Chasing a target of 145 runs, Shreyas Iyer (29 not out off 46 balls) and Ravichandran Ashwin (42 not out off 66 balls) stitched an unbroken 71-run partnership for the eighth wicket to win the fourth match of the second and final Test match. Clean swept the two-match series by winning by three wickets before lunch.

This helped India consolidate its position in the WTC table with 58.92 percentage points. Now he has to play a four-Test series against Australia in February-March next year, which will be crucial from the point of view of making it to the WTC final. If India has to make it to the WTC final for the second time in a row, it will have to do well in the series against Australia. Australia are currently the frontrunners to make it to the WTC final for the first time. The Pat Cummins-led team has an overall score of 76.92 per cent.

Australia has yet to play two Test matches against South Africa. He won the first Test match in Brisbane inside two days. The four Border Gavaskar Trophy matches against India will be Australia’s final series in the current cycle. India had secured the second position due to South Africa’s loss to Australia in the first Test. The Dean Elgar-led side, however, will have a chance to bounce back in the current series and reclaim second place. South Africa then have to play a two-match home series against the West Indies in February-March.
