Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) head coach Chandrakant Pandit on Friday blamed himself for failing to capitalize on home matches, saying there is nothing wrong with the pitch at Eden Gardens. After registering a win against Chennai Super Kings on May 14, KKR skipper Nitish Rana had said that barring his team, every team has taken advantage of home conditions in the IPL. Two-time IPL champions KKR are on the verge of elimination having lost four of their six matches at the Eden Gardens. Rana’s remarks triggered a blame game between KKR and the host Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
Pandit, however, said that Rana’s words were misinterpreted and he never blamed the pitches here. “I think you guys have misunderstood it (Rana’s comments),” Pandit said on the eve of their match against Lucknow Super Giants. Home advantage means that when we play at home, we want to win. “It is not about the pitches or anything else. I am talking about winning matches, and it is unfortunate that despite having the home ground advantage here, we have failed to win too many matches.
Asked if he was disappointed with the pitch here, Pandit said, “Pitches everywhere have changed dramatically over time. No one can guarantee how the pitch will behave in a particular match. Many teams have not been able to take advantage of the home conditions in this tournament.
