Warner is struggling to score runs in the longer format of the game. He scored his last century in Test cricket almost three years ago. He was able to score only three runs in the First Test against South Africa, including a golden duck (getting out on the first ball).

Australia batsman Steve Smith on Wednesday expressed confidence that David Warner, who has been under fire from critics for his poor form, will soon make big scores as the opener is desperate to perform when he is going through a bad phase. Warner is struggling to score runs in the longer format of the game. He scored his last century in Test cricket almost three years ago. He was able to score only three runs in the First Test against South Africa, including a golden duck (getting out on the first ball).

Australia won this match by six wickets inside two days. Prior to the match against South Africa, Warner had scored 5, 48, 21, 28 in the four matches he played this summer. Smith told the Australian Associate Press (AAP), “You must have seen a few weeks ago that Warner scored 100 against England here (Melbourne Cricket Ground) when it was not easy to bat on that wicket.” We have seen that when David is going through a bad phase, he is desperate to perform well.

Warner was running in the same poor form before the T20 World Cup but he played a key role in winning Australia the title by performing brilliantly in this competition. He was voted the best player of the tournament. Smith said, “The format of the game does not matter because David plays the same way in each format. The beauty of his game in Test cricket is that he dominates from the first ball itself. Many times this type of strategy does not work but luck has not been with him for some time. The second Test match between Australia and South Africa will start on Monday.
