Earlier, while Martinez was serving to win the match, Ramkumar tried to make a comeback amid cheers from the crowd but at 30-30 a forehand shot went out. Ramkumar saved match point when Martinez hit a forehand into the net. Martinez, however, won the match by scoring points on the volley. Ramkumar initially struggled with his first serve but after that he collected most of his points with serves and volleys. Martinez earned points with his strong forehand and was able to trouble Ramkumar with his returns.
