Pant could be out of competitive cricket for a long time and it is too early to give any dates at this stage. The selection of two wicket-keeper batsmen for the Border Gavaskar Trophy will be one of the biggest challenges for the new selection committee.

The situation regarding Rishabh Pant’s ‘ligament tear’ after the car accident is not clear but if BCCI (Indian Cricket Board) sources are to be believed, he will be ruled out of the upcoming four-Test series against Australia. Pant could be out of competitive cricket for a long time and it is too early to give any dates at this stage. The selection of two wicket-keeper batsmen for the Border Gavaskar Trophy will be one of the biggest challenges for the new selection committee.

The race for the Indian Test wicket-keeper’s spot will suddenly start and it will be interesting to see who the three players to play in the Test series starting in Nagpur on February 9 are Kona Bharat, India’s second wicket-keeper Upendra Yadav and white-ball specialist Ishan Kishan. Which one is selected. Pant on his way to Roorkee from Delhi on Friday morning lost control of his Mercedes car which crashed into the divider.

He is undergoing treatment at Max Dehradun. However, the reports of ‘X-ray’ and ‘CT scan’ showed no fractures, no injury to the brain and spinal cord. But due to multiple ligament tears in his knee and ankle, he will definitely be out for a long time and this time could be between two and six months depending on the grade of the ‘ligament tear’.

A BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity, “There is a lot of swelling right now so that MRI of ankle and knee is yet to be done. Once he is fit to travel, he will come to Mumbai where he will be under the supervision of Board’s empaneled Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala. The new selection committee will have three options. Either India A’s two wicket-keepers Bharat and Upendra will join the main team or left-handed wicket-keeper batsman Kishan will make it to the team.
