India’s leading wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant, who narrowly escaped a horrific car accident on December 30 last year, on Monday made his first official statement after the accident and said he is on the road to recovery after undergoing three successful surgeries a few days back. Huh. Pant narrowly escaped a horrific car accident on National Highway 58 on December 30 last year when he was returning home from Delhi to Roorkee.

He was first admitted to a hospital in Dehradun and then shifted to Mumbai where he underwent three surgeries – two on the knee and one on the ankle. He is likely to be out for a year. Pant tweeted, “I am grateful for all the support and wishes. I am happy to inform you that my surgery was successful. The journey of recovery has begun and I am ready for the challenges ahead. Thank you to the BCCI, Jay Shah and the government officials for their incredible support.

“I want to thank all my fans, teammates, doctors and physios from the bottom of my heart for your kind words and encouragement. Looking forward to seeing you all on the field.” Twenty-five-year-old Pant suffered a ligament injury and the BCCI brought him to Mumbai in an air ambulance from Dehradun.

He was later operated upon under the supervision of Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, one of the BCCI’s empaneled surgeons. Pant has already been ruled out of the IPL and it is learned that he will be out for most part of 2023 including the ODI World Cup in India in October-November. The wicketkeeper-batsman last played in the two-Test series in Bangladesh in December and was rested for the white-ball home series against Sri Lanka.
