Mohun Bagan accused KKR of arbitrariness, the team denied

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Monday denied allegations that it barred fans wearing Mohun Bagan jerseys from entering the Eden Gardens during their Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Lucknow Super Giants. Terming such claims as ‘misleading’, KKR accused Lucknow Super Giants of counter-marketing. Counterfeit marketing is all about making profits by associating yourself with a particular event without paying a sponsorship fee.
The RP Sanjiv Goenka Group owns Lucknow Super Giants and Mohun Bagan, the over a century old football club. A section of Mohun Bagan fans alleged that they were not allowed to enter the Eden Gardens as they had Mohun Bagan’s insignia on their T-shirts and scarves. The KKR management denied the claims and accused the Goenka Group of indulging in ‘countermarket marketing’.
According to a statement issued by KKR, “There is some misleading news that the KKR management had barred some fans from entering the Eden Gardens during the KKR vs Lucknow Super Giants IPL match on May 20.” , “We would like to say that the KKR management has nothing to do with the management of the spectators coming to the stadium. We were told that there was some counter-marketing attempt by some vested interests, which was immediately stopped by the Anti-counter-marketing team as per IPL league policy.
“KKR takes pride in the wonderful relationship we have with all our fans in Kolkata. We express our gratitude to the spectators who turn out to be packed with spectators at Eden Gardens during every match. This is one of the biggest fan groups of any franchise and we will never disrespect anyone. The Lucknow team came out wearing Bagan’s jersey colors in Saturday’s match against KKR. Lucknow won this match by one run. Mohun Bagan general secretary Devashish Dutta said in a press release on Sunday, “It was a special match for the supporters of Mohun Bagan as the team of Lucknow Super Giants entered the match wearing green and maroon jerseys.” He said, But the KKR managers did not allow Mohun Bagan supporters to enter the stadium as they were wearing Mohun Bagan jerseys. Mohun Bagan Athletic Club strongly condemns this decision of KKR.
