The official said that the tenure of Sourav Ganguly’s Y-category security was coming to an end. His security was reviewed and after that the decision to increase it has been taken by the government.
Big news is coming about former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly. The West Bengal government has decided to upgrade Ganguly’s security to Z category. This is big news in itself. The West Bengal government took it on May 16, the day the Y-category security provided to the cricketer was about to expire. Ganguly was earlier provided with ‘Y’ category security. After this decision, Ganguly will now have around 8 to 10 police personnel to guard him round the clock as per the new security cover category.
The official said that the tenure of Sourav Ganguly’s Y-category security was coming to an end. His security was reviewed and after that the decision to increase it has been taken by the government. Under the previous security category, Sourav Ganguly used to get three police personnel from the Special Branch and an equal number of law enforcers guarding his Behala residence. Ganguly is currently traveling with IPL cricket team Delhi Capitals and will return to Kolkata on May 21. With his return to Kolkata, he will start getting ‘Z’ category security from the same day.
In West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Governor C.V. Anand Bose and Trinamool Congress MP and National Secretary Abhishek Banerjee are getting ‘Z+’ category security, while state government ministers like Farhad Hakim and Moloy Ghatak are given ‘Z’ category security. ‘ class security is provided. Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) West Bengal unit president Sukanta Majumdar also has ‘Z plus’ category security with Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel.
