Hyderabad. When the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team takes the field in the Indian Premier League (IPL) T20 here on Thursday for an important match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), former India captain Virat Kohli will be eyeing a place in the playoffs. Will be on display. RCB are currently in fifth place with the same number of points from 12 matches. He will have to win both the remaining matches to secure a place in the playoffs. SRH have eight points from 12 matches and are out of the title race. Kohli is one of the top run-scorers for RCB this season along with skipper Faf Duplesey, but after two consecutive failures (18 against Rajasthan Royals and one against Mumbai Indians), the veteran returned to SRH. Will try to win the team by performing his best against.
Du Plessis is the league’s top scorer so far this season with 631 runs in 12 matches at an average of 57.36. Kohli is the second most successful batsman of the team in this matter. He has scored 438 runs at an average of 39.81 with six half-centuries. Kohli, however, has lacked consistency with the bat and has struggled to score runs at a rapid pace. Apart from these two, the team will also have high hopes from Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell has played five half-century innings in the current season. Apart from these three, other batsmen of the team have failed to do well consistently.
The team will be brimming with confidence after registering a massive 112-run win against Rajasthan Royals in the previous match. Wayne Parnell (3/10), Michael Bracewell (2/16) and Karn Sharma (2/19) took RCB to 171 for 5 in this match, courtesy Duplesey and Maxwell’s half-centuries. With the fine bowling of Mohammad Siraj (one wicket for 10 runs), Rajasthan’s innings was bundled out for just 59 runs in 10.3. On the bowling front, the onus will again be on Parnell, Siraj and Bracewell to do well. SRH will be playing for their self-respect after becoming the second team to be eliminated from the tournament.
The team would like to win their remaining two matches and give their fans a chance to be happy. The team has failed in both the batting and bowling departments this season. With the bat, none apart from Heinrich Klaasen and to a lesser extent Rahul Tripathi could do well. Captain Aiden Markram’s poor form added to the team’s woes. Harry Brook could not continue the performance of the opening matches while Mayank Agarwal failed miserably. Apart from Bhuvneshwar Kumar (14 wickets) and Mayank Markandeya (12 wickets), other bowlers of the team disappointed.
