Captain Williamson and head coach Stead will not come on India tour

Tom Latham will lead New Zealand on the tour of India in Williamson’s absence, while batting coach Luke Ronchi will replace Stead as head coach. New Zealand will play three ODIs in India tour.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson and head coach Gary Stead will not travel to India for the limited overs tour next month due to their workload management. New Zealand Cricket has named separate ODI squads for the series against Pakistan starting January 10 and India starting January 18. Tom Latham will lead New Zealand on the tour of India in Williamson’s absence, while batting coach Luke Ronchi will replace Stead as head coach. New Zealand will play three ODIs in India tour.

Ronchi will also take on the role of head coach in the T20I series to be held in India. For this, the team will be announced on January 9. Former New Zealand women’s team coach Bob Carter and ex-spinner Paul Wiseman will partner with him. All-rounder Mark Chapman and fast bowler Jacob Duffy have been included in the squad for the tour of India in place of Williamson and Tim Southee. Fast bowling all-rounder Henry Shipley has also been included in the squad for the first time.

Leg-spinner Ish Sodhi and batsman Henry Nicholls have also been included in both the teams. He was not named in the squad for the home ODI series against India. Fast bowler Kyle Jamieson is still unavailable for selection as he is recovering from a back injury. New Zealand selector Gavin Larsen said the tour would help in preparations for the ODI World Cup to be held in India next year.

He said, “It is a golden opportunity to field two of our strong teams in sub-continental conditions. With the ODI World Cup less than a year away, it is high time to play against these teams at their home grounds and understand the conditions. ,
