Big blow to Team India, KL Rahul out of WTC Final, will undergo thigh surgery

New Delhi. KL Rahul confirmed on Friday afternoon that he will not take part in next month’s ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. This is a big blow for India. The right-handed Indian batsman suffered a thigh injury in Game No. 43 of IPL 2023 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). After this he had to be ruled out of the remaining matches of the IPL. Rahul said through a social media post that he will undergo surgery which will prevent him from traveling to London with Team India in June. The WTC final will be played at The Oval in London from June 7.

Rahul wrote on social media that after careful consideration and consultation with the medical team, it has been concluded that I will be undergoing thigh surgery shortly. My focus will be on my rehabilitation and recovery in the coming weeks. It’s a tough call, but I know it’s the right one to ensure a full recovery. He further said that as the captain of the team, I am deeply pained for not being there during this crucial period. But, I am sure the boys will rise to the occasion and give their best as always. I will be cheering them on from the sidelines, watching every game, along with all of you. Rahul is the captain of Lucknow Super Giants.

Said in the statement that I am very disappointed that I will not be able to go to The Oval with Team India next month. I will do whatever I can to wear the Indian team jersey again and help my country. This has always been my priority. I want to express my gratitude to each and every one of you – my fans, who gave me the strength to get back up, the LSG management and BCCI for their promptness, and my fellow players for their unwavering support in these difficult times. He wrote that your encouragement and messages mean a lot to me and motivate me to come back stronger and fitter than ever.
