Pacer Akash Deep took a five-wicket haul as Bengal bundled out Haryana for just 163 to take a 256-run first-innings lead on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Group A match here on Wednesday. Bowlers Akashdeep (5/61), Ishan Porel (2/29), Mukesh Kumar (1/41) and Pradipta Kumar (1/41) bowled for the Bengal team, which scored 419 runs in the first innings on a challenging Lahli pitch. Earlier, Bengal started the game at 335 for six, with Anustup Majumdar and Pradipta adding 19 runs to the morning score before their 58-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Anustup added eight runs to his night’s score to end his brilliant innings of 145 runs, which he faced from 245 balls and hit 14 fours. After his dismissal, tail-end batsmen Akashdeep (22), Mukesh (17) and Ishaan (14 not out) shared crucial partnerships to take the score past 400 runs.
Captain Harshal Patel took four wickets for 80 runs for Haryana. In reply, Chaitanya Bishnoi (28) and Yuvraj Singh (14) got Haryana off to a good start. But in the 20th over, Yuvraj was dismissed by Akashdeep and his wickets began to fall. Then the team lost five wickets for 69 runs in 32 overs. Haryana’s number seven batsman Sumit Kumar played a fighting innings scoring an unbeaten 70 runs. He shared a 63-run partnership for the last wicket with number 11 batsman Aman Kumar.
The partnership ended when Aman was run out. Uttar Pradesh were 257 for four at stumps in reply to Odisha’s 226 in Meerut. Baroda, who were bundled out for 86 in the first innings in Dehradun, bundled out Uttarakhand for 199 and scored 101 for three at stumps in the second innings. Nagaland scored 186 for five in 61 overs in reply to Himachal Pradesh’s first innings score of 346 at Nadaun.
